Come celebrate the legendary music of New Orleans with Chris Alvarado and the Dirty River Jazz Band. Tonight only, we'll be featuring the lovely Kate Kortum! Kate Kortum is a 22 year old breakout jazz vocalist from Houston TX. Kortum has a unique, warm sound that is unlike any else. She takes inspiration from instrumentalists like Sonny Stitt, Dizzy Gillespie, and Roy Eldridge. Intrigued by be-bop and blues music, she combines the two with lyrics, this creates a unique experience for audiences. Kortum's love for jazz and music began at Houston's legendary High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. There she concentrated her studies in flute, but fell in love with singing. Her debut album "Good Woman” dropped in September 2023 on Bandstand Presents. After only one month, it garnered over 1 million streams. At 2.5 million streams, the album reimagines standards written by men, offering a fresh female perspective through creative arrangements and interpretations. Kortum has received accolades from Downbeat Magazine Awards and National YoungArts awards. She has performed at many historic venues such as the Newport Jazz Festival, SXSW Festival, Mezzrow and Dizzy’s. She has also played at The Blue Note, as well as the world renowned Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. Kortum has worked with Cyrille Aimee, Sheila Jordan, Peter Bernstein, Benny Benack III, and Luciana Souza. Kortum received her undergraduate degree in jazz voice at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. She is currently pursuing her masters degree at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. As always, our kitchen and bar are fully open for dinner service. See you at the show!
