Oppenheim and company pay tribute to the legendary Saxophone Colossus, Walter Theodore "Sonny" Rollins, the tenor sax titan widely recognized as the "greatest living improviser," a man whose electrifying creativity has been inspiring players and delighting fans since he hit the New York scene back in the 1950s. Rich Oppenheim, an alto saxophonist with 50 years of professional experience in his native Chicago, New York and elsewhere, has performed with musical giants in a wide variety of genres. He was a member of bands led by soul great Marvin Gaye, vibraphonist Lionel Hampton, pianist Jaki Byard, saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, drummers Buddy Rich, Bernard "Pretty" Purdie and Bill Goodwin, as well as rock and blues artists Mike Bloomfield, Mick Ronson and Foghat. His discography includes recordings under his own name and as a side man. Tonight’s musicians will be Mike Porter on bass, Audra Menconi on drums and Chris Vu on piano. As always, our bar and kitchen are open for dinner service! See you at the show!
