"Ari Hoenig is one of the most maniacally obsessive, spasmodic and musical drummers in jazz." -JAZZ TIMES Philadelphia-born drummer and composer Ari Hoenig is one of the most innovative voices in modern jazz drumming. The son of classical musicians, he began playing violin and piano at age four before finding his true voice behind the drums at twelve. After studying at the University of North Texas and William Paterson College, Ari quickly became a force on the New York jazz scene, performing with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter, and Wynton Marsalis. Known for his melodic approach to drumming and fearless improvisation, Hoenig has released a number of acclaimed albums including "Time Travels," "Inversations," "Bert’s Playground," and "The Pauper and the Magician." His long-running Monday night residency at New York’s Smalls Jazz Club and collaborations with artists like Tigran Hamasyan and Gilad Hekselman have cemented his reputation as both a trailblazer and educator. A dedicated teacher and author, Ari serves on faculty at NYU and The New School, and has published several influential method books and videos on rhythm, polyrhythms, and melodic drumming. With his dynamic artistry and imaginative spirit, Hoenig continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible on the drum set. Ari will be joined on stage by Tivon Pennicott on piano and Ben Tiberio on bass. Our kitchen and bar will be open for dinner service! See you at the show!
