Midnight Set with the Demetreis Thornton Quartet | “Swing Low” Jazz Bass Trombone
Fri, Oct 30

Been to one of our regular shows? You know the drill: great sets, dinner service, a polished room. Midnight, that goes out the window.
The Midnight Set is jazz unplugged: looser, louder, no rules. Late-night bites, strong drinks, good company, and the kind of playing that only comes out after hours.
This set it's bass trombonist Demetreis Thornton, out of El Paso and one of the sharpest young voices coming up today. His sound pulls from Curtis Fuller, Steve Davis, Benny Golson, Slide Hampton, and Art Blakey, and he's already shared stages with heavyweights like Gary Smulyan, Andre Hayward, Brad Leali, and Mike Sailors. Since landing in Austin in 2023, he's been everywhere, composing, arranging, teaching, and playing across Central Texas.
Tonight he brings "Swing Low," his showcase for an instrument most bands treat as "trombone 4." Demetreis treats it as a lead voice: songbook standards, hard bop, and ballads, all filtered through a sound that's entirely his own. See you at midnight.
The kitchen will be offering our late night menu and the bar will be fully be open for drink service!
