Soul, R&B, and Blues at Midnight with The Michael Alanis Quintet

Michael Alanis sings and plays guitar, and he leads a San Antonio band through soul, R&B, and blues, with some funk and a little Latin flavor. He started on acoustic guitar at his high school talent show. Today he names George Benson and Stevie Ray Vaughan as guitar heroes, and Al Green and Marvin Gaye as singers to learn from.

Soul, R&B, and Blues at Midnight with The Michael Alanis Quintet

Fri, Nov 20

Michael Alanis is a San Antonio singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has been on the Jazz, TX calendar since 2025. He started on acoustic guitar at his high school talent show, learned by ear, and later studied music theory. He plays hotels and restaurants around town, such as the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk, and he has hosted Sunday blues jams for the San Antonio Blues Society. His guitar heroes include John Mayer, George Benson, Carlos Santana, and Robben Ford. For singing he looks to Donny Hathaway and Ray Charles. At the Midnight Set the room runs looser and louder than an early show. That suits a band that mixes blues, funk, and a little Latin into its soul and R&B.

About Jazz TX

Jazz, TX is San Antonio's home for live jazz, tucked into the basement of the historic Pearl Brewery's Bottling Department. Founded in 2016 by bandleader and pianist Doc Watkins, the club picked up the torch of the city's great jazz rooms and quickly became its premier destination for live music. Seven nights of shows span jazz, blues, big band, Texas swing, salsa, and Latin jazz — from Doc Watkins and his ten-piece orchestra to world-class touring artists like Kevin Eubanks, Bill Charlap, and John Pizzarelli. Every show is an intimate, 90-minute ticketed concert. Come early for South Texas cuisine, craft cocktails, wine, and beer, and stay for the music. At Jazz, TX, the night is a celebration shared between the audience and the band. 312 Pearl Parkway, Building 6, Suite 6001, San Antonio, TX 78215 (210) 332-9386 Tuesday–Thursday 6–10 PM · Friday–Saturday 6 PM–midnight · occasional Sunday special shows
